Welcoming New Faculty – Kristin A. Sonderman, MD, MPH

Please join us in welcoming Kristin A. Sonderman, MD, MPH, as a new faculty member in the Department of Surgery.

Kristin A. Sonderman, MD, MPH
Associate Surgeon, Division of Trauma, Burn and Surgical Critical Care

Dr. Sonderman completed her undergraduate degree from the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health, where she went on to receive her medical degree. She holds an MPH from the Harvard T.H Chan School of Public Health. She completed her general surgery residency at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and a Paul Farmer Global Surgery Fellowship from the Program in Global Surgery and Social Change at Harvard Medical School. She was also an Arthur Tracy Cabot research fellow at the Center for Surgery and Public Health at the Brigham. She most recently completed a trauma and surgical critical care fellowship at the R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center of the University of Maryland.

Dr. Sonderman is a member of various professional societies, including the American Medical Association (AMA), the Association of Women Surgeons (AWS) and the Society of Critical Care Medicine (SCCM). She is an associate fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a fellow of the Eastern Association for the Surgery of Trauma (EAST).

Dr. Sonderman’s research interests include surgical capacity building in low income countries through national surgical planning, surgical education and training. Additionally, she has interests in trauma education and resident development.

Welcoming New Faculty – Enobong J. Efiong, MD

Please join us in welcoming Enobong J. Efiong, MD, as a new faculty member in the Department of Surgery.

Enobong J. Efiong, MD
Associate Surgeon, Division of Trauma, Burn and Surgical Critical Care

Dr. Efiong completed a Bachelor of Arts in psychology from New York University and received her medical degree from SUNY Upstate Medical University. She completed her general surgery residency at Geisinger Medical Center and a fellowship in surgical critical care from Georgetown University affiliated MedStar Washington Hospital Center.

Dr. Efiong is double board certified in general surgery and surgical critical care. She is a member of various professional societies, including the American Association for the Surgery of Trauma (AAST), the American College of Surgeons (ACS) and the American Medical Association (AMA).

Dr. Efiong’s areas of interest include resident education and global health. She believes regularly meeting patients at one of the most vulnerable times in their lives is imperative, especially while ensuring their perspectives are acknowledged and appreciated. She views her role as both systematic and collaborative, making sure patients are compassionately cared for, educated and equipped to make safe informed decisions, as she helps them navigate the path to definitive treatment/surgical intervention.

Welcoming New Faculty – Stella E. Lee, MD

Please join us in welcoming Stella E. Lee, MD, as a new faculty member in the Department of Surgery.

Stella E. Lee, MD
Associate Surgeon, Division of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery
Section Chief, Rhinology, Division of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery

Dr. Lee received a Bachelor of Science in neuroscience and English from Duke University and her medical degree from Chicago Medical School. She completed her residency in otolaryngology-head and neck surgery at Yale University, followed by a fellowship in rhinology and skull base surgery at Johns Hopkins University.

Before coming to the Brigham, Dr. Lee served as the division chief for Sinonasal Disorders and Allergy in the Department of Otolaryngology at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center for ten years. At the Brigham, Dr. Lee will also serve as the section chief of Rhinology in the Division of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery.

Dr. Lee is experienced in the comprehensive management of patients with complex rhinologic, allergic and skull base disorders. Her research interests include characterization of the inflammatory endotypes of chronic rhinosinusitis, the impact of environmental pollution on airway inflammation and advancing the care of patients with cystic fibrosis and hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia. She is a leader in the development of novel therapeutics and creation of new paradigms of how we conceptualize and treat sinus and skull base disorders.
